With a budget of $175 million, Suicide Squad brought in $746.8 million, ensuring that fans would see the villains and their universe explored more in the future. In addition to the impending Suicide Squad 2 with director Gavin O'Connor, a "Mad Love" style movie with Harley and Joker is also in development.

Jared Leto is reportedly set to star in a standalone movie about the Joker. Last year, it was revealed that Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn would be the first Suicide Squad member to star in a solo film, which will be directed by Cathy Yan and based on the Birds of Prey comics.

A Suicide Squad sequel is also in the post, due to go into production in 2019, and that's aside from the now in-development The Batman from Matt Reeves, helmsman of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and War for the Planet of the Apes.

All of this Joker news is starting to get as confusing as Matt Reeves' The Batman.

A new standalone Joker movie starring Jared Leto is on the way. But one thing is for certain: two Joker movies are now being lined up.

Despite earning bad reviews, "Suicide Squad" (2016) made Warner Bros. nearly $747 million at the worldwide box office. One movie will be the origin story, while Jared Leto's will focus on the partly established character that we saw glimpses of during Suicide Squad. As for Joaquin Phoenix taking on the Clown Prince of Crime with Todd Phillips and Martin Scorsese, that remains a mystery. You can read the original report over at Variety.

Plot details are unknown at this point, but executives at Warner Bros. apparently intend to expand on the world depicted in Suicide Squad.
