Apple said it never took information from Facebook (AAPL)

"Turns out "like" buttons and "comment" fields can be used to track you, so this year we are shutting that down", Apple senior vice president of software engineering Craig Federighi told a standing-room crowd of some 6,000 developers at Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference in the heart of Silicon Valley.

Tim Cook has said Apple never took data from Facebook, after reports that Facebook granted more than 60 smartphone makers access to people's information. Last year, the company launched an Intelligent Tracking system that makes it more hard for advertisers to follow users around the web.

According to the iOS announcement, Apple is adding enhancements to prevent tracking of users.

Users will now be able to get a few summary of the time they spend on the phone and how long they are on certain apps. For years, Facebook has followed users around the web with the help of its tiny thumbs-up button. Many Facebook users aren't aware that the company collects information about non-Facebook websites that people visit, even if they don't click on any of those "like" or "share" buttons.

After recent news that Facebook provided "deep access" to smart device makers to access user data, and that the company also failed to report this information to consumers or the United States government, many are publicly voicing their displeasure with the actions of the social network company.
