Vermont will pay you $10,000 to move there - but there’s a catch

If your dream job involves working from home with a view of the mountains, you're in luck. Hence this new program, the New Remote Worker Grant Program, created to recruit young Millennial workers to Vermont.

The program, set to start in 2019, will cover relocation, computer, Internet and any other work-related expenses that the new resident might incur in order to work remotely in the state.

According to state officials and the official summary of the new legislation, the financial incentive is meant to help cover a worker's moving costs and business expenses related to working remotely, such as for new technology.

To address worker shortages, small towns in MI and OH are also offering financial incentives to people willing to move. The rapidly shrinking tax base is leading to an economic crisis in the northeastern state, and as a result, Vermont is experimenting with innovative ways to attract new residents. The worker must also perform most duties from a Vermont home office or co-working space.
