Giuliani Would've 'Considered' Recusal From Probe

Judge Andrew Napolitano argued that Attorney General Jeff Sessions shouldn't have accepted the job as the nation's top lawyer since he ended up recusing himself from the Russian Federation investigation, arguing that Sessions' decision has caused big problems for the Trump administration.

The South Carolina Republican said the president is frustrated with Sessions because the attorney general did not tell him he would recuse himself from the Justice Department's election meddling probe.

Sessions has lasted longer than may of Trump's appointees, despite enduring public criticism from the president. “There are lots of really good lawyers in the country, he could have picked somebody else!”. Citing the lawmaker's comments in a Twitter posting, Trump added: "And I wish I did!"

Giuliani told The Associated Press on Wednesday that Trump has asked him multiple times, before and after the former NY mayor joined the president's legal team last month, about whether Sessions should have been fired.

Since that time, Trump has called Sessions "beleaguered" and in February referred to him as "Mr. Magoo" during a closed-door meeting reported by The Washington Post. Something that a 4 year old, you know, while smearing, like, chocolate on the side of a wall might think.

If Trump asked Sessions to take control of the Russian Federation probe again, Trump's lawyer said that would not be obstruction of justice.

On Monday, the Justice Department agreed to investigate "any irregularities" in Federal Bureau of Investigation tactics related to Trump's campaign. Gowdy oversaw the investigation as chairman of the House Select Committee on Benghazi.

"It was disappointing to see how quickly [Gowdy] fell into the role of defense counsel for the president", Rep. Adam B. Schiff (D-Calif.), the Intelligence Committee's top Democrat, said of his time helping to run the panel's Russian Federation probe.

Graham said that while he shares some of Trump's frustrations with the situation - particularly the Justice Department's resistance to appointing a second special counsel to investigate the handling of the Clinton email probe - he doesn't expect Sessions will depart "anytime soon". He said he believed Trump should sit down for an interview with special prosecutor Robert Mueller, something the president has balked at.

But key Republican lawmakers have warned Trump not to dismiss Sessions, fearing it could lead to Trump's impeachment, and that the US leader could not be assured that a new appointment as attorney general could win confirmation in the politically fractious Senate, where Republicans hold only a 51-49 majority. Looking ahead to fall elections, he has reinforced to Trump that the best approach now "is to keep focused on good governance in the midterms". "So, our jury is the American - as it should be - is the American people", he said on CNN.

Gowdy's comments come as President Trump continues to attack the department and the bureau over the handling of the Russian Federation investigation.

"'Unrecuse" doesn't say, "Bury the investigation.' It says on the face of it: Take responsibility for it and handle it correctly", Giuliani said. The US President has earlier said that he wanted an attorney general to shield him "legally and politically".
