The president tweeted that Disney CEO Bob Iger should apologize to Trump for past comments about him made on ABC because Iger had apologized to Valerie Jarrett, the subject of Roseanne Barr's racist tweet.

Jarrett responded Tuesday during a previously scheduled appearance on the MSNBC special Everyday Racism in America.

"Barr is going back and forth", Stelter said, "between apologizing and portraying herself as the victim". "When you have a president who started his political career around birtherism [a campaign questioning Obama's citizenship by birth]. people like Roseanne feel they're empowered", he said.

And Jarrett said the depersonalized nature of social media contributes to the tone of some of the rhetoric on social media. "She said she was exhausted of being attacked and belittled more than other comedians who have said worse".

"First of all, I think we have to turn it into a teaching moment", she said. "Nice!" Sara tweeted that she was "disappointed" in her onscreen mom and blasted Roseanne's comments as "abhorrent". "It just shocked me a bit, but I indeed fucked up".

Jarrett urged Americans to talk about "those ordinary examples of racism that happen every single day".

Roseanne Barr says that tweeting under the influence of the prescription sleep aid Ambien is what led her to post a racist remark that subsequently got her sitcom, "Roseanne", cancelled by ABC.

Her daughter Laura is a justice reporter for news network CNN. It just shocked me a bit, but I indeed f***ed up'.

"Yes, I have had odd ambien experiences on tweeting late at night-like many other ppl do", she wrote. I know. The president did it, too. "I understand her position and why she said what she said", Roseanne writes, "i forgive her".

The beloved comedy returned to ABC in late March, almost 21 years after its series finale, and was quickly renewed for an 11th season.

During the town hall, Jarrett seemed satisfied with the network's response.

In other tweets, Barr urged fans to not defend her actions, and that losing her show is "0 compared 2 being labelled a racist over one tweet".

"No, I understand her position and why she said what she said", Barr said.
