Disney and Lucasfilm's Solo: A Star Wars Story has launched across the galaxy with the studio reporting a weekend estimated total of $83.3 million for the release domestically, factoring in the Memorial Day holiday Disney estimates have the film's domestic weekend gross at $101 million across the four days.

The top brass at Disney/Lucasfilm are pondering why Solo: A Star Wars Story didn't fly anywhere near as high as they expected in the United States and internationally, including Australia, last weekend.

However, the reason behind the disappointing box office could be as simple as Star Wars fatigue; while Star Wars films were once seen as cinema events, it seems that the more movies are made, the less interest audiences have in seeing them. Solo, which had the widest opening for a Star Wars movie yet, had a per-screen average attendance of only 2,100. Will Solo's underperformance have any impact on future Anthology movies? The magic of Star Wars films gained the franchise millions of fans, both young and old. Disney Last year, "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales" opened over Memorial Day's four-day weekend and took in $78.4 million. We learn that since his encounter with the Jedi on Naboo, Maul survived being cut in half and eventually went on to become the leader of the Crimson Dawn Criminal Syndicate, which is shown in Solo.

Teacher, student killed in bus crash
Mount Olive Mayor Rob Greenbaum, who saw the aftermath of the highway crash from an overpass, described the scene as "horrific". She said they were being evaluated and treated, but she did not have ages or conditions. "The kids were obviously freaked out".

Superheroes will also claim the No. 3 spot, as Disney and Marvel's Avengers: Infinity War adds about $16.5 million to its domestic haul in its fifth week. Force Awakens, Rogue One and The Last Jedi all opened in mid-December and had no direct competition.

Not even Hollis tried to sugarcoat Solo's global performance so far, which includes a paltry $10.1 million launch in China. "Deadpool 2" is expected to make $54 million over the four-day weekend, giving it an estimated domestic total after Monday of $218 million. That is a lifetime ago on the scale of box office inflation. As fun as being a Star Wars fan is, there's a lot of stuff you have to put up with to fully enjoy the films. But also because one movie losing some money isn't that bad considering how profitable other installments have been.

Paramount's comedy Book Club, a ideal kind of counter-programming to the superheroes and space scoundrels in theaters, brought in $9.45 million and fell just 30% from its previous weekend. And as for origin stories, the Ruth Bader Ginsburg documentary RBG remains one of the most notable hits right now, holding onto 10th place the box office for the third weekend in a row.
