While opposition leader M.K. Stalin said that the central government was not considering the interests of the students from Tamil Nadu and was causing unnecessary confusion, actor turned politician Kamal Haasan asked, "In this digital age, asking students from Tamil Nadu to go to Rajasthan and Kerala to write NEET is injustice". Unprepared, students sat for the examinations. Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami announced that his government would provide 1,500 aspirants with a second-class train ticket as well as Rs 1,000 as one-time assistance. Pradeep Yadav, the school education secretary, said: "We had gotten in touch with over 9,000 students with government, and government-aided schools".

While the office of NEET director Sanyam Bharadwaj said students were allotted centres in other states given difficulties in finding centres capable of conducting the test here, Bharadwaj himself remained unavailable for a comment on Thursday.

The petitioner had contended that most of the candidates were from rural areas and belonged to poor families and that they might not be able to afford their stay in other states.

Meanwhile, two bills passed by the state government seeking exemption for Tamil Nadu from the NEET examination are waiting for the President of India's assent, for more than a year. "The rest, maybe about 1000 or 1,500, were given the nearest available centres in neighbouring cities".

These numbers, however, are varied. Some 1500 students have been allotted examination centres in Kerala, Karnataka and Rajasthan. But within a year of her passing away in December 2016, the centre made NEET compulsory for all medical admissions, forcing the students of TN too to fall in line if they wanted to join medical education system. We thought we would get Tirunelveli but instead got it in Kerala. "When I spoke with the parents, I came to know that majority have already planned carpooling". "It is a real logistical challenge to get them to Ernakulam by Sunday". That would have been proper. This year 2 lakh more students have applied for NEET compared to last year. "Inbox me the details like hall ticket, place where ur exam hall assigned will book the tickets for u". There is already widespread public discontentment over Centre's betrayal of the state on issues, such as the Cauvery water dispute.

The Rajasthan Tamil Sangam in Jaipur has also offered to help students travelling to Rajasthan for writing NEET with accommodation and travel.
